He also repeated in a general sense what Kanbur wrote to me recently about inflation and poor people    -  that the problem is data availability.    It isn't.   The problem is that welfare economists just steam on to the conclusion without the required data.    To a real scientist, data availability isn't a problem, because what they are concerned with is telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth about what they find out.
